Pure 7-string Metal

If you play metal or fusion on a 7-string, Ibanez has designed a guitar just for you. Optimized for heavier music styles, the RG Iron Label RGIXL7 executes every note with precision and power. This solidbody electric handles down tuning like a champ, thanks to its longer 27" scale length. The fast Nitro Wizard-7 XL neck plays beautifully, while the instrument's deep cutaways give you unrestricted access to the upper registers. The RGIXL7's DiMarzio Fusion Edge-7 pickups deliver powerful, responsive scooped tone with tight, compressed bass response and crisp high-end bite, while the Gibraltar Standard II-7 bridge provides rock-solid intonation and massive sustain. The Ibanez RG Iron Label RGIXL7 is a progressive guitarist's dream come true.

Nitro Wizard-7 XL neck

The 3-piece maple/purpleheart neck on the RGIXL7 features Ibanez's Nitro Wizard-7 XL neck profile, which gives you effortless access to this guitar's entire range. And the generous 27" scale length handles lowered tunings with ease. In fact, the Iron Label RGIXL7 comes from the factory tuned down a whole step, from A to D. Guitarists at Sweetwater agree, the Ibanez Iron Label RGIXL7 is a great entry point into the world of seven-string guitars.

Fusion Edge-7 humbuckers: made for metal

The Fusion Edge-7 humbucking pickups on the Iron Label RGIXL7 are the result of a collaboration between Ibanez and noted pickup maker DiMarzio. Designed for metal, Fusion Edge pickups deliver a powerful scooped sound with tight, compressed bass response and crisp high-end articulation — ideal for bludgeoning djent chugs and high-speed staccato riffing. The RGIXL7's DiMarzio Fusion Edge pickups give you the aggressive yet precise tone that the modern metal guitarist needs.

Ibanez: a brief history

Ibanez began its life in 1908 as the Hoshino Gakki company in Nagoya, Japan. However, the company didn't get into the guitar business until 1929, when they started importing Salvador Ibanez guitars from Spain. In 1935, Hoshino Gakki began building Spanish acoustic guitars under the "Ibanez Salvador" name, which was later shortened to "Ibanez." Although Ibanez began manufacturing electric guitars in 1957, the company was relatively unknown in the West until the 1960s, when they started producing guitars based on American designs. By the late 1970s, Ibanez had stopped producing derivative guitars and had begun manufacturing the original designs that the company is now known for. Ibanez is also famous for their effect pedals (most notably the Tube Screamer) and guitar amplifiers.

Ibanez Iron Label RGIXL7 7-string Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • 7-string guitar with longer 27" scale length to accommodate lowered tunings
  • Nitro Wizard-7 XL neck plays fast and smooth, with luminescent side dot inlays for better visibility on stage
  • DiMarzio Fusion Edge-7 humbucking pickups deliver metal-ready tone
  • Gibraltar Standard II-7 bridge for superior intonation and sustain
  • Gotoh MG-T locking machine heads for maximum tuning stability

Great guitar, Great value

This guitar is very comfortable to play and also has all the upgrades a player would want...Gotoh locking machine heads...Gibraltar bridge...good dimarzio/Ibanez pick ups...I like tone knobs so I wish it had one...and at this incredible price it should come with a gigbag...I am so happy.

Rock Solid Chugging Machine

Didn't buy it from Sweetwater but wanted to leave my two cents anyway. After playing this, being a 27" scale neck, I don't want to play a 7 string any lower, even for B standard tuning. This guitar plays and feels fantastic. No workmanship issues at all, no fret sprout, frets and fretboard were actually rolled on mine when I got it (your mileage may vary). Normally not a fan of black guitars, but this thing looks downright killer. I also love the control layout. I never use tone knobs so I'm glad it's omitted here. The Gibraltar bridge feels great, and honestly in my hands just as good as an actual Hipshot IBBY in my opinion. I do have to knock off one star for a couple small complaints. #1 ..plastic nut on a $ guitar is pretty stupid. #2 the pickups are 'eh'. They're not the worst thing in the world, but they are pretty muddy. You'll probably eventually want to swap them out.

Needs some mods

OK! First off, the guitar plays as nice as anything I've ever played on before. It is smoooooth to play, the ebony fret board is flawless, the frets are basically perfect, it is SO light, it resonates well, the 27in scale is fantastic for lower tuning and really feels good to play on. The higher frets are a lot more precise at that scale length, it is just going to tax dexterity a bit with larger chords. I'm totally in love with this, and I have guitars that cost hundreds more than this does. Why it gets a slightly lower rating? #1 the plastic nut for a 900 dollar guitar is silly, I had the great sweetwater guys swap that out and set up the guitar before it shipped. #2 The pickups sound decent through plugins, but on a real amp they're just way too muddy so those are getting swapped for better( I tune to drop A so it's not that low). #3 This is nit picky, but the Hipshot IBBY bridge is just way way nicer than the Gibraltar, and it's made of solid brass and will add a lot to the tone and sustain, so that'll get swapped with the pickups. So all in, some people will be fine with it stock, I think it could be much better stock at 900 dollars. BUT, after modding it because I'm bored and... covid... This is an absolutely sick guitar to play honestly.
