A Fender Dreadnought with Prolific Tone

A smooth-playing dreadnought featuring a mahogany body topped with Sitka spruce, the PD-220E acoustic-electric guitar packs some serious Fender tone in a guitar equipped for the stage and the studio. Plug in and the Fishman electronics and Soundhole pickup system transfer this acoustic’s full-bodied tone to the electric realm. Play acoustically and you'll tap into the rich, warm, natural sound of a beautiful mahogany body. Top it with a layer of solid Sitka spruce and you’ve got an acoustic ripe for articulate fingerpicking and open chords with even response. The easy-playing "C"-shaped neck will keep you glued to this dreadnought for days on end, and the intricate ivoroid binding will enthuse you audience! Trust us: you’ll want to add the PD-220E for your acoustic arsenal.

Fishman electronics bring the plugged-in power

Plug in the Fender PD-220E and you’ll open a door to a possibility of plentiful tone-shaping options given its modern-designed electronics. With a Fishman Sonitone Plus Soundhole Pickup System, your dreadnought sails tonal waters equipped with tone controls mounted directly under the soundhole. That means vintage aesthetics are preserved while offering you the modern, rich tone of a Fender dreadnought. Under the spruce top lies a body-sensing pickup that blends excellently with the under-saddle pickup for a full range of impeccably captured sonic vibrations.

Uber-playable "C"-shaped neck

Wrap your hand around the PD-220E’s neck and you'll be pleasantly surprised. That's because this dreadnought features a legendary "C"-shaped neck made from mahogany. Run up and down the fretboard, and you'll comfortably play everything from ringing leads to sonorous chords. Take it from us at Sweetwater: this guitar will feel like an old friend!

Distinctive dreadnought tone

There’s no doubt about it: dreadnoughts form the lifeblood of many acoustic guitarist’s lineups here at Sweetwater. And the Fender PD-220E’s dreadnought body boasts powerful projection and tones filled with percussive punch. Dreadnoughts have landed themselves in the hands of some of music’s greatest musicians, spanning rock to bluegrass and even punk. Likewise, the PD-220E will feel at home in a variety of musical situations, strutting its stuff with a thick, deep tone. Additionally, when you make a dreadnought from spruce and mahogany then tie it all together with a quartersawn scalloped “X” bracing like the PD-220E, you’re crafting an instrument that brings warmth, richness, and booming full-bodied majesty to the table.

Fender PD-220E Dreadnought Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:

  • Fantastic Fender tone in a dreadnought with excellent projection and full-bodied tone
  • Mahogany body offers richness and even response while spruce top adds articulation

Great Guitar-Especially at the Price Point

I've had this guitar for a little over a month. Plays and sounds fantastic. Came out of the box completely set up, the only thing I did was change the strings to my preferred set (Elixir- Nanoweb). The color is beautiful, the burst looks much more detailed in person and the wood grain pattern on the back is stunning. Frets are a little large for the neck but I haven't had an issue with it while playing. I dislike the strap button where the input jack is. It's was awkward to get my standard strap on as it is slightly larger than the button by the neck. The case that comes with it is a great feature. I recently played a lot of similar and even higher-end models (including some very expensive Gibson's) and I would hands down take this guitar over most of them. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Such a high quality guitar with a more than reasonable price tag.

This guitar would be a steal at $1500.

I love it. Did not opt for all Mahogany (I already have a couple of those) went with Sitka top sounds great looks absolutely beautiful (nice case too). Solidly compares to a few of my $2000 +/- guitars. Get one - you will be thrilled. This one is going to go up in price for sure... had it set up locally with Martin Retro Monel strings.

Finally a good Fender acoustic

Though I have played Fender acoustics in the past, I have always thought they were much below average. This solid wood beauty dispels that myth. Sunburst is awesome and the guitar sounds great. And not just for the money. This was my first purchase from Sweetwater. They let you pick the guitar you want and then totally check it out. James is a very knowledgeable and helpful rep. Also, the case is very high quality. The fender phos. bronze strings sound good but are pretty squeaky.

First few hours with it.....

So far so good. The specs and price were what drew me to this guitar. And of course the beautiful sunburst. After waiting 24 hours to open after receiving it, I was impressed with the build quality and the finish. A very nice even tone. You can hear every single string when strumming. The action is spot-on. In other words, it's very comfortable and low. The neck feels familiar if that makes sense. Kind of like you've already owned this guitar for quite some time. The resonance is what impressed me the most. Strum a chord and it rings for a long time then slowly fades after about nine seconds. I will post another review after I've lived with it for a few weeks. I haven't plugged it up yet but I'm very familiar with Fishman electronics and they have always delivered after you dial them in. This guitar truly oozes quality. I'm hoping this will become a friend for many years.

Great Fender Acoustic Guitar

So this guitar started popping up in Sweetwater ads on my phone. I wasn't really thinking about buying a new guitar as I have several acoustics already, but something about the vintage look caught my eye. I contacted my Salesman, Dave Brow and asked about these new guitars. He gave me some positive feedback on the Paramount line of Fender acoustics. I asked Dave to contact me when the guitar came in and he did of course. I went in to Sweetwater, fortunate to live in Fort Wayne where Sweetwater is located, and tried the guitar. It is awesome and I bought it on the spot. Great look, great sound, and wonderful detail work and quality. I am very happy with the purchase and love playing the Fender. If you think the internet service is great, you should make a trip and visit Sweetwater in person. Dave Brow, Greg Baum from the store, and the Customer Service folks that helped with my purchase are all fantastic.
